Better times...
Ruki gallery, Viljandi, Estonia
Feb 18 - March 25, 2023
With Art Allmägi
The exhibition examined fragments of the past, details of earlier aesthetics and art and viewed them in a modern (art) context through Allmägi's installations and Piile's paintings .
Kaarel Kurismaa has said: "Better times are not only over, but also waiting ahead".
The sentence of the artist, who is more than half the age of Allmägi and Piile, reflects life wisdom and humor, but also highlights the fact that there is no direct reference to the present in the train of thought. However, we are in the most direct contact with the present. Traveling from the present to the past and the future in the mind is instantaneous. The results of such journeys vary from person to person. The past is generally seen more brightly, as fragments of the past are romanticized. The visions of the future mainly depend on the mood of the moment.
Katrin Piile's works exhibited at the exhibition dealt with temporal stratifications, repetitions, patterns and peculiarities of the painting medium. Art Allmägi's works played with objects located in the gray area between art and craft, transforming, developing and partially canceling them. In his installation decorative elements, handicrafts and classical sculpture were transformed into contemporary art.
PS! Allmägi and Piile sincerely still believe that better times are not only over, but also waiting ahead.
